site and discover what our town and county have to offer. Blakely is a quintessential
small town of roughly six thousand inhabitants with another six thousand people
living in rural Early County and the towns of Damascus, Arlington and Jakin. Life
here moves at a slower pace, and the people don’t just use their town, they are
a part of it. Blakely is a place where others stop to help change a tire or ask
how you and your family are doing. Shoppers speak to each other in the stores, and
for the most part, everybody knows everybody.
While Blakely and Early County may not always offer the up-scale trappings of large
cities, our main attraction is our people. Instead of a domed football stadium where
strangers crowd into their seats, we have Standifer Field, where the Early County
Bobcats play on Friday nights in the fall and a crowd of former players and students,
parents, and friends gather to cheer the county’s youth. Instead of large chain
financial institutions, we have banks where your teller knows your name, or you
went to school with the loan officer, or perhaps you just met the bank president
at a Howell Park baseball game.
